DCEDI Gets On Commissioner’s Agenda ONE DAY in Advance

DCEDI Gets On Commissioner’s Agenda ONE DAY in Advance

I requested the Commissioner’s agenda for Tues 6/19/07 meeting this morning as it was NOT on the county web site. (Apparently due to a computer glitch last week that would not allow attachments to be sent.)

I received two copies. The first “draft” at 10:31 am has 4 items on it and then a second “draft” showed up at 11:08 am with a NEW item:

JIM WEST- DCEDI- “REQUEST APPROVAL TO SEEK FUNDING FROM COUNTY COUNCIL FOR DEVELOPMENT STUDY”

I have 5 questions regarding this item:

1. Why is Mr. west allowed to get on the agenda with such an important request only a day in advance and the rest of the citizenry is requested to get on a WEEK in advance?

2. How can commissioners PREPARE for this request if they only get a day’s notice?

3. What happened to the $330,000 that DCEDI was given by Council to obtain options for land for economic development?

4. Vieste just left us with their study and an approximately $300,000 bill that the taxpayers paid. Are we expected to pay for another study already?

5. Does anyone else wonder why our county road money funds seem to be diminishing and our county development study funds seem to be bottomless?

I wonder if the commissioners will have good answers for these questions.

  1. DCEDI never goes away. If the commishes would stop funding them they might slow down a bit because as you and I know the rich boys and girls of the DCEDI won't spend their own money.

As far as question 2 of MRS. Mueller's blog is concerned the answer could be a no brainer like DCEDI had briefed one of the Commishes who briefed the second commish in what is calleds a serial phone call. If this supposition is corrrect we can further assume naturally that the third commish, Ralph Thompson was not briefed. Why would they want to get in touch with Ralph Thompson, after all he can read, write, add and even subtract.

As an after thought if the county has money to fund the DCEDI again it is obvious that we are paying too much in taxes.

  4. Shovel Ready Site defined:

A site, any site, a politically connected realtor or developer can purchase for ten cents on the dollar before one of their bought and paid for political cronies graciously changes the zoning of the very same site!

  5. Look at the DCEDI website. Property is for sale in Dearborn County. Andres Property, Stone Property, Maxwell Property, etc.

Look at the empty buildings on the DCEDI website, look at the land available. The study has been done. Vieste was paid $300 an hour and they couldn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Mr. West will be able to do a better job? Or is he and his organization trying to capitalize on getting $300 an hour?

  6. The DCEDI's idea ecomomic impact for Dearborn County, is simply what makes a number of "connected" realtors, developers and bankers a few bucks!

If those bucks are made at the expense of the rest of all the other non-connected Dearborn County Residents, then so be it!

How about Northern Kentucky. During his stint there, he turned Northern Kentucky into a powerhouse. Of course residents there realize that jobs are the most important thing to making a community viable. Here we have a group of people with there heads ...in the sand, calling themselves "farmers" when actually all they do is run a few head of cattle or raise a little hay. Either we go through you or over you or around you, or these whole community will be left behind. This next election wil be a fun one!

Oh hell yes, who was reseponsible for the levee deal that was not paying off its TIF bonds so the taxpayers have to pay the interest and will ahve to buy back those bonds when they are callable. Who do you think owns those TIF bonds that were floated for the Levee. They are owned by the guys who put the levee deal toghether and can't make it work. The have a fail proof deal, guaranteed by the taxpayers. If the Northern KY levee works good deal if it fails good deal also for the same guys.

I don't know that West was involved in that deal or not but it is an example of the development of Northern KY.The taxpayers are the payors of last resort.

There are people (and families) and there are fertile lands and beautiful rural areas in this county that are just as important to the future as the Economy. Equal weight to all three- will benefit the county as a whole.
What happened to the goals of the master plan in this quest for Economic Development?
Do the citizens get to weigh in on this or is it only the select few?
Even Vieste's NW Quad plan was supposed to be on hold till the master plan maps were adopted. Why would DCEDI's plans be any different?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I believe the DCEDI stands for:

    DEARBORN COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INIATIVE

You have to be a paid $5,000 member to participate...but they have some funding from the county...and much influnence over their bought and paid for politicians.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If you are new to the county, realize that there is no Republican or Democratic Party in Dearborn County. There is only the pro-development, sell out this great rural county so I can get rich quick, and on the other side, the I care about the county and my community party. Thanks for reading the blog. This is the truth the local paper won't print.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The local paper won't print this information because everything I have read I would not want my children to read. I believe there are a few people that need to start attending church again and remember how we are supposed to treat people even those who we don't agree with.

I also believe some people have to much time on their hands and need to find a good charity to donate their time to instead of trying to find out who is on an agenda. I believe there are good hospital programs and mentor programs for children. Well I guess through if your going to use the type of dirty name calling that is on this blog you won't be permitted to be around those children.

I believe in a good debate but it would be nice if you could clean it up a bit.

Worrying about who is getting on the agenda?

    Please!!!

It is your side who spends its time and resourses trying to keep non-realtor/developers off the agenda!

A good debate means the opportunity for both sides to debate. You and yours have done their best to squelch such debate.

As far as how we treat people...I never tore down the opponents campaign signs...but I had to bring my candidate's in every night to keep it from being destroyed or stolen!

Now, maybe you need to listen up a bit more in church...I think you are missing the gist of the sermons!

And, if you are who I think you are, try being a litte more Christian to your neighbors!

    Oh ye hypocrite!!!

In Dearborn County, putatively run by the local realtor/developers, their is always a rush to get just enough infastructure in place to permit more development.

Once new development is permitted, there is a rush to do the same in another area...leaving last area with an infastructure mess!

  89. If owners of the Boat were to leave today, everyone in the county would be paying for some citizens blocking economic development.

All citizens will be paying, through higher property taxes, enforced sewer hook-ups and exhorbinant infrastructure costs, if the zealous-pro-development crowd gain a real foot-hold!

The zealous-pro-development is only about what profits zealous-pro-development, all their empty talk to the contrary!

  90. The biggest problem with economic development is not people blocking it; but, West's inability to sell anything in the county. There are a number of sites currently available and he has had little success. Almost 2 1/2 years and virtually nothing to show for it. A big waste of a salary!
