KICKBACKS OR PAY TO PLAY?

KICKBACKS OR PAY TO PLAY?
submitted by Alan S. Freemond, Sr.
Jackson Township

The late actor Claude Raines said it all “I am shocked, shocked” We have the strange situation of the following four companies, none based anywhere near Dearborn County donating significant amounts of money in an attempt to defeat a candidate for county commissioner, Ralph Thompson. They are, surprise, surprise:

London Witte Group- $500
Level 5 Engineering- $500
PSA Dewberry Engineering - $500
Jungclaus Campbell- $500.

All of them are gorging at the Dearborn County public trough, all contracted by our county administration.
The question is why did they donate against Thompson? Better yet why did they donate at all? Normally one would think that engineering companies and financial advisors such as these four mentioned above would be happy to have a commissioner who is an engineer and who holds a degree in Business administration. They could talk the same technical language, and have productive meetings of this public-private accord. But no they didn’t want such an individual. What is it that made them go against a peer?

Was it the principals of these companies or their handlers, such as the central committee of the Dearborn County RINO party, or the potent, wealthy, well-educated DCEDI membership that feared Thompson might punch holes in their dreams of more riches?

I think that, though these four companies are within their legal rights and ethical rights to donate where they wish, this smells like a bad processing day at the St. Leon Sewer works. To avoid perceptions of impropriety of the County commissioners, and/or on the part of county officials, the commissioners should request that these 4 companies withdraw from doing business for Dearborn County. They have lost the trust and respect of any number of Dearborn Countians.

The cozy cronyism of the local RINO party machine must be crushed.

The DCEDI, and its handmaidens, the county commissioners, should have had an investigation into the backgrounds of the principals of these companies before engaging them. After all they are advising on huge sums of money, taxpayers’ money. What do we know about these guys other than what they have told us?
One seemed to have spent an inordinate amount of verbiage about his regard for a town in Italy on the Adriatic Sea, Vieste, whence his family came. Who cares about that?
After all, if these people put money into a campaign against a qualified candidate in favour of a candidate who is a developer and technically less qualified than his opponent, who knows where else they have put money or will put money or its equivalent?

And, this very minute, a plethora of imaginary gavels are being pulverized against desktops all around this county, endeavoring, ineffectively, to shut you up!

Maybe, you did not get the memo?

The movers and shakers prefer to keep our county officials, ignorant, barefoot and pregnant.

Those questionable contributions were simply support payments for all the illegitimate “mothers” in government.

Maybe the current county leadership reminded him of Benito Mussolini ("IL DUCE" to his friends) and his Fascist Grand Council? Maybe Vera reminded him so of Clara Petacci?

And Linkmeyer declared he was the "hometown" candidate!

Did he go back to Florida yet?

I guess if you want to own a politician, you have to:

THINK LINK!

The good citizens of this county will win out against the likes of Linkmeyer, Benning, Fehrmen, et al.

It will just take some time.

Like cutting and splitting "pish" elm.

“mothers” in government.

I heard that phrase for years concerning our local politicians...but in an entirely different context!

I wish these "growth" types would just drop the pretense that they even care about the 99% of the citizens who don't want to be the "public piggy bank" for the elite of this county!!!

They need to come clean and just admit that the average citizen is only a resource to be mined barren, sterile and unproductive by those who worship and venerate the “all mighty dollar!!!”

Since we do not share their love of the 30 plus pieces of silver that might be gained on the backs of our neighbors, they think little of us.

We are not the “go-getters” they view themselves as!!!

How many of “us” would even want to be associated with these types, that feel right belonging to a federation of folks (read DCEDI) who view the less politically connected types as hostages to their, “politically connected,” movers and shakers’, fortunes!

What county commissioner(s) or county counsel member(s) are next up for re-election?

The individual citizen loves a free an open election as much as the entitled citizen loathes it!!!

Life certainly has changed for the back-office elite!

No more ole gal gushing and pandering…doing her best to ingratiate and curry favor…just so the ole gal could fruitlessly and unrewardingly…plead for admittance into their “private” club!

Now they must face Ralph…who…God forbid…might want to hold them responsible and accountable…when taxpayer money is involved!!!

Ralph…who will inform the county attorneys…just what their responsibilities are in relation to county government…not the other way around!!!

The days where conflicted county attorneys were leading commissioners around like steers with ringed snouts…is over!!!

From an earlier thread:

Hankins asked if installation were less expensive, would people consider going on to the sewer system.

How about we let sewers follow a more natural and gradual growth of the county?

Be honest with yourself, Mr. Hankins.

The leapfrogging of sewer systems all over this county, benefits no one, other than a few, elite, “connected” realtors and developers!

When you, Mr. Hankins, start to speak more seriously about user and impact fees, we will take you more seriously!

One can only wonder how much unreported money has changed hands and who has received it and for how long have they been receiving it.

Have other Commissioners or candidates been receiving "contributions"?

It takes a lot of money to buy a lot of campaign signs!

What was the ratio last election between Linkmeyer and Thompson?

10,000 to 1?

Radio ads?

100 to 1?

And somehow...through all the smoke and mirrors...the people chose wisely!

One wonders, if during the next election, will these “County Club Republicans” back the Taliban candidate, if he is for county-wide, enforced sewer hook-ups?

The smug, self-importance and arrogance displayed by these "King Makers' " is beyond pathetic and laughable.

The only way these "King Makers' " can field a future candidate will be through mendacity, subterfuge and deception.

And we will call them on such shamefaced tactics in the most vigorous and vociferous ways!

If this alleged occurrence really took place, Thompson should send this little conceited and pompous twit packing!!!

Maybe I live an insular life, but, I have yet to meet anyone who resided in Dearborn County their entire life, but longed to move away because it just was not enough alike Hamilton County, Ohio!

I have yet to meet anyone who moved to Dearborn County, who fled places like Hamilton County, because Hamilton County, just was not growing fast enough and they hoped to see more rapid growth in Dearborn County!

Again, maybe I live too insular a life!

Anonymous said...

Yep. We fled Butler County because we could see the political machines at work over there buying up our farmland and turning it into "4 homes per acre" subdivisions. Bravo to everyone in Dearborn County who has the courage to stand up and draw a line in their fields, so to speak! We love living here, we love the good people we've met here, and we proudly stand beside you to fight for our country way of life!

Let me guess?

You neither belong to the DCEDI, nor have never been canvassed, nor polled, by the DCEDI, as to your feelings, regarding the development of Dearborn County?

Folks like us just are not permitted into the inner circle, echo chamber, that makes up the DCEDI!

Makes you kind of "itch" for the next series of elections...does it not?

Anonymous said...

We love living here…

Being a transplant, you must have loved Linkmeyer’s veiled implications that he is a Dearborn County “lifer” as compared to “buckeye” Ralph Thompson who has only resided here for 15 years?

You just can’t make this stuff up!

Next for the DCEDI?

Relegate those voters who do not back their strategy for our county to having a vote worth 3/5th that of those who support their stratagem.

What a compromise!

Since we do not share their love of the 30 plus pieces of silver that might be gained on the backs of our neighbors, they think little of us.

What’s worse?

Some folks have to spend over $30,000.00 of their own “silver” before they even begin to sweat out connection fees and monthly sewer dues, just so politically savvy realtors and developers can increase their bottom line profits on their over crowded subdivisions!

And these bought and paid for politicians and hacks thought we were not going to put up a fight?

These imbeciles are going to set back development for many years to come, simply because they could not measure and govern their own insatiable greed!

Hopefully, these folks are well stocked with Valium and Scotch for the next series of elections and coming board changes!

It has gotten to the absolute point of ridiculousness, that whenever a farm or large parcel of land comes up for sale, realtors and/or developers by it all up and immediately bellow:

“We have a septic systems crisis around our purchase!”

With no pangs of shame, guilt or embarrassment, whatsoever.

An extraordinarily sad state of moral and ethical descent.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Hankins,

The next time you are at Wal Mart, Krogers, etc., gaze into the faces of those people you are so enthusiastically keen to "tax," thousands upon thousands of dollars, only for the subsidy and advantage of a few of your "friends."

Then convince yourself that you are a fiscal conservative...as long as its not your friends and associates' money you are spending!!!!

How contemptible!!!!

Anonymous said...

Mark my words:

Every sewer plant “low balled” to the taxpayer is going to cost twice as much in the end.

Further, at least with the current county leadership, most of these sewer facilities will be soon permitted to hit “over-capacity” to make way for more “politically connected” realtors and developers subdivisions.

Then we will always be one crisis away from the next crisis, with ever increasing cries for more sewer growth, which in turn will be permitted to reach levels of over-capacity.

Again, mark my words.

Anonymous said...

Apparently, the elite do not want the taxpayers to factor in their, sometimes, enormous, connection costs, into the "real" costs of these proposed sewers.

Further, the other infrastructure cost associated with such rapid expansion.

Up until recently, Fehrman was still touting the tax base gains of his subdivisions.

When finally confronted with the “real” capital costs just to local infrastructure, he gave up on that line…Lord knows how he is selling his ideas today!

Anonymous said...

Remember the good ole days when your neighbor would sell his property and someone might put a couple of houses on that property?

If we don't fix our failing, worsening, deteriorating and declining septic systems, some of us are going to be dead in another 80 or 90 years!!!!!!!!!

STOP THE CARNAGE!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell me why we're not allowed to have aerobic septic systems out here? They don't use leach fields, and they're more efficient and environmentally friendly. Why aren't they an acceptible alternative to the "failing" septic systems currently in use? We used one at our previous home in Butler County. We had to pay a $50 charge every year to the county health board which covered the yearly inspection. Otherwise, we had no problems with it at all. When we moved here, we were told by our realtor that aerobic systems weren't approved out here.

Anonymous said...

Aerobic septic systems still require more space (land) than sewers.

This cuts down on the bottom line of those realtors and developers that want to maximize their profits.

Hell, now, they have politicians in their pockets, that are willing to charge sewers to taxpayers who simply don’t need them, to subsidize these very same realtors and developers.

Sewers are now a criminal enterprise in this county!

This is, and always has been, about MONEY, not health!

Anonymous said...

Don't expect sewer board members such as Maxwell and the usually inconsequential, Fehrman, to do anything to curtail this criminal enterprise.

To them it is all about:

MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!

If the rest of us have to go bankrupt to support their illicit undertakings…then so be it!

We need to counter with:

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!

Anonymous said...

Aerobic septic systems do nothing…zilch…naught, to support and relieve the financial burdens of those pimp realtors and developers that demand the citizen/taxpayers to shoulder all the pecuniary burden of the “sewer-welfare for the rich and politically connected”programs now promulgated by their “bitches” in government!

Anonymous said...

Expect the old canard from the “bitches” in government that they are simply supporting the property rights of the realtor/developer!

And if it takes the total abrogation of the property rights of the common citizen/taxpayer, then, so be it!
