Dearborn County Redevelopment Commission Guilty of Multiple Counts of Open Door Law

Dearborn County Redevelopment Commission Guilty of Multiple Counts of Open Door Law Violations

Register Publications assistant editor Denise Freitag Burdette filed three separate complaints regarding executive sessions, missing meeting minutes, and the non-existent DCRC public discussion of the $10,000 payment the county administrator sought for her additional work for the DCRC.
Dearborn County Administrator and Redevelopment Director Terri Randall apologized to the public for her mistakes. Full story is in the Journal Press July 15 issue front page and editorial page. The following links are fully readable for all the public.

So Let me guess nothing happens ? No fines, sanctions, etc?

Perhaps they have learned their lesson- and if not perhaps the Public Access Counselor will be harsher the next time.

you have got to be kidding me it will do nothing but embolden them.

That would be a big mistake. Ignoring Open Door Laws now and pleading ignorance will make them look inept. A board and their attorney like the Redevelopment Commission that has numerous executive sessions should be smart about those laws - they get enough practice calling them.
It may be time for the Public Access Counselor to come down to the county and run a workshop for board attorneys and local officials.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Where was the Redevelopment Commission lawyer during all this? Sleeping? I am not absolving the commission members and staff but shouldn't they be able to rely on a lawyer to help them?

I didn't know there was a question of ineptitude ......I thought that was already a given
