Vieste Writes Their Own Letter of Recommendation

Vieste Writes Their Own Letter of Recommendation

The following is a letter drafted BY Vieste, LLC and delivered TO the County by Dick Robertson. They want the County Commissioners to sign this as part of their separation agreement.

The separation agreement has a clause, which states:

“Section 5. No Disparagement. The parties agree their determination to terminate the Service Agreement was mutual and the separation is amicable. As a result, each party will refrain from making any disparaging or derogatory statements about the other except as may be required by subpoena or in connection with any investigation by a law enforcement or regulatory agency. In addition, CLIENT will provide CONSULTANT with a letter of recommendation covering CONSULTANT’S services in form and content satisfactory to CLIENT.”

It is important to note that CLIENT is the COUNTY and CONSULTANT is VIESTE, LLC.

This letter was drawn up by Vieste and emailed to the County be printed on County letterhead:

June 25, 2007

RE: Letter of Recommendation – Vieste, LLC

To Whom It May Concern:

On September 12, 2006, the Dearborn County Board of Commissioners (“County”) engaged VIESTE, LLC to develop a Comprehensive Capital Program Management Plan for the County.

Phase I of the project included an assessment of immediate, mid-term and long-term capital requirements for the County. An audit of the County’s financial processes, along with alternative funding strategy recommendations, was developed and submitted by VIESTE and the County’s financial advisor. The comprehensive plan that was developed by VIESTE is a critical piece of the economic development in Dearborn County.

However, because of the lack of political consensus within the community, it was the joint conclusion of the entire team, including VIESTE, that more time was needed by County government to garner sufficient community support to ensure a successful Phase II implementation.

Phase II of the project was scheduled to commence after completion of the assessment. VIESTE and the Capital Program Management team were to oversee implementation and execution of all capital projects, including those identified during the Phase I study.

For the record, Dearborn County was very pleased with the deliverables and overall work performed by Vieste, LLC, and would enthusiastically endorse the use of the firm to others. The Dearborn County Board of Commissioners thanks VIESTE and its team for their time and efforts in furthering the interests of Dearborn County.

Sincerely,

Jeff Hughes, President Dearborn County Commissioners

Rick Fox

How about a letter that states:

”We, the undersigned, dissolved and suspended our relationship, at a fast gallop, ahead of posse of angry taxpayers!!!”

Was this the sort of "Letter of Recommendation" that led to our County hiring Vieste?

What's this all about. Viesta et al are the ones who put,all together, put 2K dollars into the Linkmeyer campaign. Why'd they do that?

It all gets so wearysome.

Did a County Attorney even peruse this one-sided contract?

Or was it just too “pro-development” to turn down?

Land Title Attorneys love unrestrained development!

Thanks for looking out for us, Counselor!!!

I think that Vieste was doing the job that they were hired to do by the County. Vieste wasn't able to finish because people started throwing a fit over something they didn't understand. The study was going to be a comprehensive plan for possible future economic development. This study could have been used to help the County look at areas for possible commercial and industrial growth.

It is a shame that even a study can't get completed in this County. Whats next are you going to drive all the bsuiness away so I can't even buy milk in this county without having to drive to Cincinnati.

"Thanks for looking out for us, Counselor!!!"

Friggen lawyers!

Some folks produce wealth, some folks consume wealth, and lawyers just bounce around somewhere in the wealth transmission stream, creating ways to pick off other people’s dollars!

Anonymous said...

...throwing a fit over something they didn't understand.

This "fit," as you so phrase it, took place after the citizens and taxpayers began to fully "UNDERSTAND" what Vieste and their soul-mates at the DCEDI had planned for "their" County!

You might want to alter your driving route.

Because, apparently, you have not traveled Hwy 50 between Aurora and Greendale.

Lots of milk, and other items, can be found along that stretch of road!!!

And if you hurry you might also see a hillside next to a flood plain, side by side, before the bulldozers refuel!!!

There is a lot of good to be said about being a "Bedroom Community." It is nice to have a peaceful place to come home to.

I'm sorry, if that does not fit into some folks' "business plans!"

But my vote is every bit as valuable as any realtor/developer's vote.

Sorry!

If the development that is already taking place in this County is not profiting enough of our realtors and developers, maybe some of the less successful ones need to take up massage therapy or anything that does not require my tax dollars!

Anonymous said...

"It is a shame that even a study can't get completed in this County."

It seemed to me, it was all but completed, but for the fact of cramming it down the throats of the public!

You are dealing with people who have either lived here their entire lives, or moved here, because they like the environment as it is.

Telling someone how this development is going make their lives so much better, when the reality that they see is made up of costly enforced sewer hook-ups and pastures paved over with asphalt, is bound to be a “NO SALE!”

Calling them ignorant and selfish, will not ingratiate them “more” to your side!

Anonymous said...

Some of us actually chose the rural lifestyle. Now we are being told we were somehow selfish for making that choice and for fighting now to keep and maintain our rural lifestyles.

Vieste is a joke and so are the commissioners if they sign this and send it back to them.

Vieste gave this county nothing, absolutely nothing and will be paid like they did. Who in the world is worth $300 an hour and not have to deliver anything? Nothing?

Again, if the commissioners sign this for them it just goes to show this County really is a sideshow for their circus.

Anonymous said...

The foolish trio signed a contract, basically holding our County liable if we speak ill of Vieste, no matter how poor a job they did or would do, short of the Courts having to get involved. Insult to injury, we have to give them a good letter of Recommendation!

Time to lose the other two of that foolish trio!

The only ones that you can blame for Vieste not finishing their work is you the public. You finally got your way so the project was stopped. Thanks to the NW Quad for wasting the tax payers money.

Thanks to the NW Quad for wasting the tax payers money.

The ineptitude and incompetence exhibited by Vieste and the DCEDI as well as their many political stooges, played no part in this fiasco?

Just the citizens of the NW Quad, who were not even given the respect to be part of a plan, from the very beginning, that directly affected their community?

You are a real piece of work!

Development is out of control.

The county is being developed in record numbers. New roads are putting a burden on the people of Dearborn County. Developments are being filed in record numbers at the planning commission.

Perhaps no one read the original agreementr other than the Vista side. Do we have any one down there in L'Burg who can read????
Thsee Viesta boys had the Indianapolis law firm Ice Miller help their people with that lawrence Indiana water deal.

What's really neat about that is Ice miller was giving Dearborn County advice on TIF bonds!!!! So Ice Miller are our buddies also.

If Ralph was involved at the launch of the NW Quad mess, he could have articulated the likely feelings of the citizens of the NW Quad and then maybe, their interests would have more respected from the very beginning and possibly there might have been a different outcome!

But Vieste and DCEDI chose to keep everything close to the vest, until, there were already realtors canvassing property owners to sell their property, before the very same property owners knew anything about this NW Quad plan!

My question concerning all the tax dollars spent on the NW Quadrant:

What was the back-up plan if no one would sell their properties for this project?

And don’t you think, by including members of the NW Quadrant Community, early on in the process, would have saved many of our tax dollars? Did not Vieste, the DCEDI and their supporters in government, act as poor stewards of our money?

Or did the proponents of this deal have ideas of eminent domain actions?

As if the rules do not apply to them?

So you are agreeing that development is not happening in the county.

I am glad you finally see this and recognise it.

Anonymous said...

”Could it be some of the developments already given the go ahead have to be continually halted because the developers keep ignoring the board approved plans of the projects?

As if the rules do not apply to them?”

For an example:

Consider some of the comments of members of the Planning Commission, concerning Villages of Sugar Ridge Planned Unit Development:

Feiss- I was here when this was presented- unfortunately- I thought it was a good product- but the few times I went through there I was appalled. We’ve given him control to do a project we approved and he’s NOT doing what we approved.

Hall- Everything is shifted- there are a lot more private roads showing up than originally planned.

Anonymous said...

So you are agreeing that development is not happening in the county.

Thank you for misstating my answer.

I don’t see a dearth of development.

And in those cases were approved development is at a standstill, because of the developers mis or malfeasance, well that is the developers problem, not mine.

And how much development is enough for you all?

You seem to want what took other communities 50 years to develop, to be done in a decade!

Now, your zest for development has become a political issue because of your heavy handedness and at least in the short term, you will be stymied.

Maybe you all need to hire better, more articulate promoters for your cause instead of dictators with their briefcases full of dictates for the rest of us?

And finally, the question has been asked: ”What was the back-up plan if the folks in the NW Quadrant would not sell?

Anonymous said...

In fact, it was the pro-development's zest "everything-for-development," that gave us this mess of a Vieste Contract. A contract that a first year business student would find humor in!

Development is slow now here and nerly everywhere- it's a buyer's market. Look at the amount of empty approved but undeveloped lots in our county. There's at least 5 year's supply out there in the county alone- not counting cities and their plans.
And while we're moaning and groaning about local's jobs- have you been to any construction jobsites lately? Look at the license plates and look at the workers. NOT LOCALS.

"And while we're moaning and groaning about local's jobs-"

The moaning and groaning is only coming from the realtor/developer's corner. Because of their entitlement mentality, the believe the entire county should just be assigned over to them.

Anonymous said...

Again, what should businesses do to stay in business if there is [sic] (no?)economic activity?

Where are all these businesses that are suffering so?

If the citizens of this county do not share your vision of vast development, will you continue to try to run "end runs" around them via your political goons?

And what was the back-up plan if the folks did not want sell their properties for your "much" needed development up in the NW Quad?

Problem is, that the DCEDI does not view the residents as partners.

Partners would not play dirty politics against other partners.

Partners would not try to cut off their partners’ voice in government.

Partners would not expect the other partners to have to expend thousands upon thousands of dollars, in sewer hook-up costs, to buttress the other partners’ profits.

This will never be a partnership as long as one side only sees the other as cheap and easily discarded tools!

Maybe, since the DCEDI folks so want to repeat the ”MISTAKES” made in places such as Warren County Ohio, or the Counties of Northern Kentucky, they should just hurry the process along and bulldoze the remaining hills in South Eastern Dearborn County into the Ohio River and create a land-bridge to Northern Kentucky!
