WANTED: Four-year commitments

A lot of people are concerned about sewers in Dearborn County. Many have been participating in, or watching, the county's comprehensive planning process. There are complaints that deals apparently are still being done (by public officials) behind closed doors and/or under the table--many of which are discussed on the public forum website. That being said, it seems (to at least this interested member of the public) that there is an increasing need to find intelligent and fair ctizens to participate in the leadership structure of the county.

One of the real problems in this county is that for all of the discontent, distrust, and dislike of the public officials, there are few who are willing--or more importantly competent enough--to expose themselves to the rigors of public service. Instead of being upset or unhappy to the point that we simply check the other box on our ballots, the voters (the citizens) need to actively solicit our friends and neighbors to run against those who have drawn our ire--THE COMMISSIONERS and their many appointed board members among the Regional Sewer District, Redevelopment Commission, etc.

There are some who cannot and/or will not make a major commitment of their time and effort for the greater good; however, there is more than a small handful of viable candidates among the 50,000 (or so) people in the county. Let's find some for 2008! You know what the alternatives are like...

Has Morris sent out letters to both Fox and Hughes, that the Republican Leadership cannot, in good conscience, support their candidacies due to their "harsh" rebuke of the Republican rank and file Primary Voter last commissioners’ race?

All you have to do is read the comments on this blog about anyone who might speak their mind in contrast to the majority of comments and then ask yourself, why would anyone is their right mind want to put themselves or their families through that? There are some high quality individuals who have been interested in running for office and would have been excellent public servents, but have decided that it would be better for their families to not get involved than be personally berated, lied about, be attacked and have thier motives unreasonable distorted and called just about every name in the book and refused to run. The comments on this Forum page should erase all questions one might have about why people wont run for office. A small minority have done this to us and then have the gall to complain that we do not have any good candidates, after they have run them off.

Yeah, honest folks like Thompson, Lansing, Ulrich, Cheek, Kraus, Hall, Feiss, McCormack, McGill, and many more are constantly being "berated!"

Not!

Public servants who think they hit the "insider" political lottery by being elected or appointed are those who may have second thoughts as to getting involved in public affairs!

Good riddance to them!

What does scare off the good, decent candidates, are actions, such as those taken last commissioners' race where our "crooked cadre" of republican back-biters tried to nullify the republicans' choice of candidate!

That is the kind of garbage that turns people off to public service!

You make the point!
The list you have are all those who vote the way you like, this time. Just wait, you will have the opportunity to berate them later!

"When the going gets tough the tough get going."

I'd say one more politician representing the taxpayers could change the mood of the county very quickly. Ralph Thompson has set the ground work for honest people to take charge.

Yeah!!!

Run for office!!!

Follow all the rules!!!

And then have corrupt party officials try an end run around you because you are not a bought and paid for development shill!!!

And these creature is lecturing us about frightening off decent, viable candidates!!!

Their arrogance and hubris never ceases to amaze me!!!

Hall for one did not vote the way many would have liked for him to on White Farms...but he is an still an honest, trustworthy individual!

So you prove my point by labeling all those who don't vote your way as "trouble makers" if they are not blindly loyal to Development's dictates!"

Development thugs destroying or stealing the campaign signs of "Non-Development-Endorced" candidates, does not encourage many to get involved in the political process!

Anonymous said...

Are we going to let the Republican Rank and File choose future Republican candidates, or is the Republican Leadership already conspiring to derail any candidate that does not kiss the ring of Ewbank and Company?

Poor babys!

They are losing wherever the "public" is permitted to participate in the "public" process!

Back room deals keep getting harder and harder to make a "difference" in County Government!

Anonymous said...

How encouraging is it for the average citizen, when, for example, after all their hard work on the Comp Plan, Development stooges such as Fox and Hughes, do their best to nullify their participation!

Anonymous said...

They are just beyond pissed. They really thought their "lock" on county government would last forever. Hell, Brett Fehrman was so cock-sure, that he is selling lots for a proposed dense subdivision, with no sewers...yet. It was just a foregone conclusion that he would be able to force the taxpayer and those living around his proposed subdivision to fund whatever infrastructure he needed!

"All you have to do is read the comments on this blog..."

Our Development Hacks always want it both ways!

First they claim that this blog is irrelevant because no one reads it...

...now, this blog is singularly responsible for running off all so many "fine" would-be public servants!

Their upcoming emotional implosion will be entertaining to witness!

The number one issue in contention in this county is forcing others to subsidize the development of the politically connected of this county.

Drop forced hook ups and see how much pressure is also dropped.

But don't cry to us that you should be permitted to raid our savings without anyone making a public stink!

You sound like the three-time loser complaining that the cops keep picking on you because you just happen to be an unrepentant thief!

Anonymous said...

Oh no!!!

Thanks to the thoughtful members of the County Council, Development operatives cannot force our neighbors into bankruptcy to support their subdivisions!!!

And we are the bad guys now???

Naw just opposition rhetric.

The DCRSD rightfully had their obscene power grab shut down and were redirected back to their original task of fixing High Ridge!

And the DCRSD Board Members and enablers are acting like they had the rug pulled out from beneath them!

It just proves that the formation of the DCRSD, in the mind of our local realtor/developers, had nothing to do with the "public health!"

It had everything to do with making the DCRSD the realtor/developer benevolent society!

"The DCRSD rightfully had their obscene power grab shut down and were redirected back to their original task of fixing High Ridge!"

The cognitive dissonance that will be present on the board as they try to "fix" High Ridge without slipping Gabbard Estates into the "fix," will be crippling for the DCRSD!

It will be "crippling" because the board members really thought the "fix" was already in for Gabbard Estates!

You make the point!

By naming those who support the taxpayer against those who believe the taxpayer should just shut up and shell out their tax dollars to Development's Movers and Shakers?

Nothing happened out the Council Meeting that should not have happened a long time ago!

Council just took your political gun away from our foreheads!

Anonymous said...

How sad is it that "victory" for the DCRSD and its Develoment supporters, would have been getting the go ahead to "force" others to subsidize their particular, personal business interests?

Pathetic!

Anonymous said...

"Pathetic!"

That's politics!

It's hard to embarrass a beggar. That is what the dcrsd was doing.....begging.

Anonymous said...

They were "begging" for the opportunity to make the rest of us "beggers" to the Development Crowd!

The new property tax hikes should eliminate the need for new subdivisions and housing. There will be plenty of foreclosures on the market soon enough.

Dearborn County should be listed as a disaster area.

Jeff: "DID YOU KNOW THE DO-NOTHINGS AND THE ANTI-EVERYTHINGS HAVE HIJACKED THE PLANNING PROCESS AND THEY WANT YOUR KIDS TO NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FORCE YOUR NEIGHBORS TO SUBSIDIZE YOUR LIFESTYLES?

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?"
