DEARBORN COUNTY REOPENING PLANS

DEARBORN COUNTY REOPENING PLANS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

04/06/2020

At their Wednesday, May 6, 2020 Board of Commissioners meeting, the Dearborn County Commissioners passed a proclamation extending thru June 3rd, 2020, the Local Emergency declared on the March 17, 2020.  They formally adopted the “Back on Track Indiana” plan which was announced by Governor Holcomb on May 1, 2020.  This plan was used for the guidelines outlined in reopening of Dearborn County. These guidelines and the plan may be modified from time to time.

Within these guidelines, which take effect Monday, May 11, 2020, Dearborn County employees will return to work for their full shifts.  Also, effective May 11th, the County will do a “soft” opening for the Dearborn County Government facilities.  This includes the Government Center at 165 Mary Street, the Emergency Management Building, the highway garage facilities as well as the Animal Control office.

Dearborn Circuit and Superior Courts are governed by Order(s) issued by the Indiana Supreme Court under Indiana Administrative Rule 17.  The Courts and Court Services, which includes probation and community correction, will continue to follow the current Order under Indiana Administrative Rule 17 in place through May 17, 2020.  That order may be extended, in whole or in part, or replaced with a subsequent Order of the Indiana Supreme Court. If you are scheduled to appear in Court, you should appear as ordered unless notified by your attorney or the Court that your appearance is not required.

During this “soft” opening, the offices will remain staffed during normal business hours but
public access to all Dearborn County public buildings will be by appointment only.  The public is being asked to continue to conduct business via phone, online or fax. You may contact an office to see if an appointment would be allowed for your purpose of business. The public is emphatically encouraged to contact the office you have business with, in advance, to arrange an appointment.  To reach the Government Center, please call 812-537-1040.

For access to the Government Center for an approved appointment you will be medically screened by a Health Nurse and have your temperature taken.  If you appear to have symptoms or a fever you will be denied access to the building.  Any members of the public that are permitted to enter Dearborn County public buildings may only do so while wearing a mask.  You must bring a mask with you when you arrive for your appointment.  If you do not have any access to a mask, Dearborn County will provide one for you.  Masks are in limited supply; therefore, we ask that if you can wear your own mask to your appointment, that you please do so.
